Module summary

This module provides an introduction to different cell types, human tissues, major organs, body systems and disease. The course emphasises the integrated nature of cells tissue and organs from a molecule cellular perspective.

Objectives

This module will provide a good grounding in human physiology from a biochemical, cellular and tissue perspective.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module students should be able to:
- Understand the formation of multicellular tissues and systems derived from stem cells.
- Understand the molecular physiology and integration of major body systems and the including,
a) Neuronal system,
b) Digestive system,
c) Liver and metabolism,
d) Kidney and electrolyte balance,
e) Cardiovascular system,
f) Aging.

Syllabus

Understanding human physiology from a biochemical, cellular and tissue perspective. This module will provide insights in to stem cell biology, tissue development and the physiological and pathological mechanisms of multiple human systems. These will include the neuronal system digestive system, kidney, liver, cardiac and respiratory systems.
